The United Kingdom Film Council estimates that British actress Kate Winslet is worth nearly $99.7 million to her country in terms of tourism and industry.
The film council used factors such as the salary of “The Reader” actress and how well her films’ promote tourism in Britain to determine her value to the economy.
Other factors in the financial value experiment developed by David Steele, the council’s head of research and statistics, was how well her profile ensures her films are made in Britain and the impact her films have on promoting the country overall.
“When an actor achieves international prominence, they have a general effect of boosting their country of origin that works its way through television appearances, advertising and celebrity news.”
